Experience Neusiedl am See at its best!

The monuments and historic buildings in the very distinctive countryside around Lake Neusiedl are the backdrop for numerous hiking trails in Neusiedl am See. The trails lead through the town area and its unique Neusiedl cultural landscape. Over and over again exciting views of the lake and the Leitha Mountains open up before your eyes. The monuments, wayside shrines and historic buildings along the way tell their stories of long forgotten times. Most are circular trails and can be combined one with the other. The entire network comprises more than 20 km.

The Kurucs trail (Kuruzzenweg)

The Kurucs trail is named after the Kurucs, who were Hungarian insurgents, and is about 3 km. Starting from the town centre (main square), it takes you to the landmark Tabor ruins, a refuge during the Kuruc wars. From there in good weather you can see across to the Hungarian plains. The trail then leads via the Berggasse back to the town centre, a place that has been moulded by its past.
Walking time: about ¾ hour

Over the Kirchberg

The trail over the Kirchberg takes you from the Kalvarienberg via the Tabor ruins to the “Weinwerk Burgenland”, where you can enjoy a glass of wine after your 5 km walk. At each of these three places you can learn about the region, nature and the town. The trail over the Kirchberg connects with the wine route that has been set up in conjunction with Weiden am See. This trail takes you via the Weiden vineyards, through the centre to the Kalvarienberg and back.

The Kalvarienberg trail

The Kalvarienberg trail is about 3 km and leads from the Nyikospark via Kalvarienbergstraße on to the Kalvarienberg with its stations of the cross. At the chapel on the top there is a breath-taking view across the region and an infopoint. The historic barracks leads the way back to the Nyikospark. The trail over the Kirchberg also starts at Am Kalvarienberg.
Walking time: about 1 ½ hours

Weinrieden vineyard trail

Der Weinriedenweg beginnt in der Eisenstädter Straße beim „Blauen Kreuz". Nach The Weinrieden trail starts in the Eisenstädter Straße at the Blauen Kreuz (Blue cross). After the station yard the trail goes left and the walk takes you through the oldest vineyards with a view of the lake. Walking via the Seefeldgasse the trail leads back round after about 5.5 km.
Walking time: approx. 1 ½ hours

Martalwald trail

The Neusiedl shooting range at the edge of the Martalwald forest is accessible via the B21 Danube – Neusiedl cycle route and the Haniftal. The 5 km (approx.) Martalwald trail begins here. Enjoy the walk through the forest and discover long forgotten wayside shrines!
